I couldn’t believe that my wife and I finally had the ability to own our own home.
We had been renting an apartment for years and after being reminded all the time that we were throwing away all of that rent, we chose to buy our own home.
It was a small condominium, but it was our first home. We wanted the condo because the Homeowner’s Association took care of all of the lawn services and snow removal. The way we worked, we didn’t have time to take care of these chores. We were also looking at the cost of purchasing the lawn mower, hedge trimmer, snow blower and snow shovel. AFter moving into the condo, we started taking homeownership seriously. We knew we had to change the air filters every month, but the AC unit was in the attic. The attic was nothing more than a crawl space and you could stand up. My wife was able to comfortably crawl in and in spite of the dingy lighting and cobwebs, she changed the air filters every month. She complains every time she has to go up into the attic, but she also makes sure the air filters are changed. We talked about getting a new air conditioner and having it installed somewhere other than in the attic. Since summer will be in full swing soon, we know we are going to need to change the air filters even more often. We think that we may have to consider moving the air conditioning unit even sooner than we had originally considered.
