Valley Forge, which is located in Pennsylvania, was said to be a big part of the Revolutionary War.
It was an encampment where George Washington and many of his men stayed. I expected something like Gettysburg, or Williamsburg, and I was disappointed when we arrived. The only thing that remained was one small church and the remains of some small mud huts the men stayed in. They jogging trails and bike trails clearly marked along with some walking trails. Then I took a closer look at the huts. They were small and dank. I was five foot two and I wouldn’t have been able to stand up. I wondered what they did for heating and I knew it had to be hot in there without any air conditioning. There was only one small window that I am sure was used only to shoot out of and to protect themselves. I could never imagine spending a year in one of these huts, without anything to give me heating or air conditioning. It made me glad to be living today instead of two hundred years ago. People have no idea how lucky they are to be living in a time where the least of their conveniences is heating and air conditioning. I hopped back into my car and turned on the air conditioner. I looked out at what must have once been fields and trees and thought about the way they lived. I wondered if they didn’t wish for a cool breeze or some air conditioning, even though they didn’t know what air conditioning was back then.
Quality heating and air
