Things escalate when you can’t find a balanced temperature

In my house, you can tell if an argument is brewing based upon temperature alone. My wife is a very particular person, and she likes everything in her house to be perfect. However, the things that she considers perfect are far from what I would consider perfect, especially when it comes to HVAC units. I will admit that I could be a little more balanced in my approach to HVAC units. I am sure that if I tried to set the thermostat to 70 degrees, she might complain, but she wouldn’t be completely mad. The only problem is that temperatures that high make me sweat uncontrollably. I grew up in a house where the air conditioner was always running. Even during the winter when my family has the furnace on, I was allowed to keep my air conditioner running in my room. I am used to the cold, and being in a house without their conditioner running constantly makes me uncomfortable. My wife is the polar opposite. She loves the heat. If she had her way, the furnace would be running for more than half the year. If she could set the thermostat to 90 degrees, I think that she honestly would. Obviously, you can see where the conflict over the thermostat could escalate. At first, it would start with us telling each other how we would like to use the HVAC units. When neither of us would budge, we began to adjust the thermostats when each other wasn’t looking, which resulted in full-blown arguments. Unless we find a way to compromise, our HVAC units might come between our relationship.
