I live in an area where winters can be especially brutal.
For the last month, they have been predicting that this year could be worse than it has been in over fifty years.
That is a lot of bad weather coming our way and we wanted to be prepared. We already knew that we needed to have our furnace cleaned and serviced. We also wanted to have the chimney cleaned in case we needed to use our wood burning heater in the event of a power outage. This year we were also thinking about scheduling to have our ductwork and air ducts cleaned. I don’t always rush to have the work done on my furnace but the weather already had a chill in the air and I didn’t want to risk it. I called the HVAC company and requested an appointment to have my furnace serviced. The service tech made a joke about people hearing about the upcoming bad winter and he had me a bit angry. I told him I needed to have the furnace maintained and I needed to have my ductwork cleaned and air ducts cleaned. They told me there was a waiting list to have the ductwork cleaned, but it would only be a week or so. I didn’t mind waiting for the ductwork as long as I knew it was going to be done. It had been two years since it was last cleaned and I knew that if the ductwork got clogged, it could destroy my furnace. The last thing I want is to go through a week of sub-zero temperatures and have my furnace stopped working.
