Saving money with my new HVAC

My house has a lot of structural issues.

  • When we purchased it back in 2001, the draft in the house was so bad that we could see the curtains moving near the doors and windows, even when they were shut! We knew that something had to be done about the cracks in the doors and windows.

When we had someone come take a look at the house to start repairs, they mentioned that we would be saving a lot of money by updating our doors and windows. However, I did not realize that the HVAC system was so terrible in the house. We were used to window unit air conditioning systems and space heaters in the winter months. The idea of replacing the entire HVAC system in our house was so overwhelming. We put the project off for many years, dealing with the hot summers and cold winters as they came. Neither my husband nor myself are high maintenance, nor do we have kids. Once the HVAC was replaced, we understood why it was so important- out electric bill was nearly cut in half! We had been overpaying many years for energy that was not even being utilized. It is such a shame to think that so many people have to deal with these issues as first time homebuyers. I am happy that we now know how much money can be saved simply by having an energy efficient heating and cooling system.
