Everybody learns differently and I certainly am no exception.
I had to learn through experience.
When people ask me to do something, I often don’t listen to them or understand the importance of whatever they are saying. When I got my first car, I damaged it by not changing the oil. My father told me a few times to get my oil changed, however, I didn’t feel it was important. I understand that it helps when people explain why you are supposed to do certain things and the consequences of failing. When I first bought a home, my father told me to change the air filters of the HVAC unit, but he never said how frequently. I thought about his warnings about oil change when I was a teenager and thought it had to be important. So I went and got some cheap air filters, and changed them every 6 months or so. After awhile my air quality was degrading and the HVAC system was making peculiar noises. I called my father to inform him regarding the issues. He asked me how often I was changing the air filters, and I said about once in 6 months. He panicked and started yelling at me. He said no wonder I was having issues, as I was supposed to change the air filters every month. I was surprised, however, it made sense because those air filters were clogged.
