An interesting find during an HVAC installation

Usually my job is not exciting because HVAC work is rather routine.

Still, I like it because I like problem solving and helping people out.

Despite this, it can get a little bit repetitive too. Not much surprises me anymore. I go to a jobsite, findout what the issue is with the heating or air conditioning, and then I solve the problem for the home owners. It is that simple. But last week I did get a job that was a bit surprising. It started out as a basic job, some new home owners wanted to have air conditioning and heating put into their turn of the century home. This home had never had a central HVAC system installed so of course there were a few roadblocks to work around. However, after figuring the job out, my crew and I got to work. It was when one of them cut into the drywall that the job became interesting. My technician found a really old journal that was dated over a hundred years ago. The name on the journal turned out to be a very distant relative of the new owner of the house. He was shocked when I showed him the journal and he recognized the name. How the journal ended up in the wall is anyone’s guess. Finding the journal is strange enough but finding a journal with connection to the current family is even stranger. I don’t know if it means this house is lucky for this family or unlucky. Personally, I got a little creeped out by it and was happy when the HVAC system was installed at the end of the week and we could leave.
