When it comes to choosing an air filter for your furnace or air conditioning system, there are tons of different ones to choose from.
I never really knew exactly how many different types of air filters there actually were until one day when my dad sent me to our local hardware store to pick up a new filter for our furnace.
I thought I could go in and say that I needed a furnace filter and the guy working in the HVAC aisle would just give me an air filter. Unfortunately for me, that’s not exactly the way things played out! If you know anything about heating and cooling systems at all, then you probably know how there are hundreds of different kinds of air filters available for furnaces and air conditioning systems. Some air filters have dual usages, and you can use them in an HVAC system that’s both a furnace and an air conditioner. Some filters are only A/C filters while others are only furnace filters. Then there are high efficiency air filters and anti allergen air filters, too. In other words, the day I went to get an air filter for my dad, I had absolutely no clue which air filter I should purchase. I ended up just getting one that said it was multi use, and it was also the one that had a middle price point. I ended up getting pretty lucky, too. The air filter that I purchased ended up being the perfect size and fit for our HVAC system. I couldn’t believe it, since the odds were really stacked against me in the HVAC aisle at the hardware store!
