Last night’s storm was really a doozy on the roof. I woke up in the middle of the night with water dripping on my head. I can’t say that I was shocked though! After all, the storm was a pretty bad one. In the daytime, it was clear that a lot of our shingles had been torn off… Many of them were still sitting in our front porch! We were lucky to get away with such little damage though, and one of our neighbors had a tree fall on his truck. Still, I could not go about my life with a leaky roof. I called multiple roofing businesses before finding one that was available to come out for emergency roof service. I thought it would be just a simple repair job & that it would take less than an hour to update the missing pieces so that the roof wouldn’t leak anymore… That did not turn out to be the situation at all. The roofing corporation advocated that I have our entire roof fixed up with modern EPDM roofing put underneath the shingles. They explained that it’s not only the shingles that keep the water out, there is a rubber mat that goes under the shingles that also retract water. Apparently our roof was in pretty bad condition & the people I was with and I weren’t even aware of it. I was shown multiple locations where water had been leaking through our roof for years; How had I not seen this? I guess that the roof is as old as the house. That makes it at least 35 years old now.
