I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to teach.
- I just couldn’t find a job thatI liked enough to teach to someone else.
I know that sounds a bit odd, but it’s the truth. I thought about going to college, but I didn’t like history, geography, or any other subject enough to want to teach it. I was working with my dad one summer. I loved how patient he was with me, as he told me all about the air conditioning units that he was working on. I had never had a teacher like my dad. That was what gave me the bug to be a teacher. Every time I was with my dad, I learned more. I soon realized that it wasn’t being a teacher that had me so excited, but the fact that I was learning so much while having fun. I just wanted to be like my dad. When I told this to my dad, he was thrilled. He asked me if I wanted to work in his HVAC company with him. I wasn’t sure if this was the right move for me, but I wanted to work with him during the summers and weekends. That was nearly fifteen years ago. I am still working with my dad, but now I am training newly certified HVAC techs. I remember how patient my dad was with me and I put those same kind words and that patience into the men and women I work with. We have a very successful HVAC company. My dad says it has a lot to do with me, and how well I train the new hires. I am finally fulfilling my dream of being a teacher.
