I run a little restaurant & more recently, I decided to do something to make our cooks more comfortable.
I decided to replace the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C system to a ductless mini split.
With the multiple zone ductless mini split, I was able to have Heating, Ventilation, & A/C zone control. The dining area now is able to be set to a customized temperature while the family room area & the back office where I labor are set to customized temperature control settings as well. The cooks were so cheerful because they no longer felt entirely warm while they were cooking. Then 1 of the cooks took it a step further & asked if they could have a portable TV in the cooking area. I wasn’t absolutely thinking much about it, but I said that would be fine. Suddenly, I was getting many complaints about burnt food & dishes that didn’t taste entirely good. I came to learn that a lot of our cooks were paying too much attention to the TV while they were cooking. They were burning the food & messing up the recipes with too much seasoning & things appreciate that. I finally said the TV could be in the chop room because I needed all of our chefs to focus on what they were doing. I guess I was so focused on keeping everybody cheerful, that I thought a TV wouldn’t be a big issue, turned out that it was a crucial problem. There absolutely is a wonderful line between keeping your workers cheerful & the shoppers cheerful. If your workers aren’t cheerful, they will leave. If your shoppers aren’t cheerful, you won’t make any money.
