I’ve been a certified HVAC serviceman for 20 years and I didn’t always love where I was working.
I started at a small start-up HVAC business right after I finished our heating and air conditioning certification, which was fantastic for a few years because I was able to work hard while building our business and studying new things! The next heating and air conditioning business I worked for gave me an increase in money, but the people were horrible! The owner of the business didn’t do any heating and air conditioning servicing, and she just sat in her office all day long! Whenever she did step out of her office it was to boss most people around or yell at someone! She also ran crazy promotions whenever she wanted, which ran all the HVAC servicemens into the ground. I remember one morning when I came into work, I saw all our coworkers loading their business vans with a bunch of furnaces and air conditioners. When I asked if there was a special on furnaces and air conditioners, one of our buddys told me about the latest promotion our boss was offering. Apparently, she decided to start offering a free furnace with any air conditioner purchase. Our boss didn’t warn us about the sale until the day it went live and we were slammed for weeks. I was forced to work 60 hours and keep up with the demand! I hit our breaking point with this HVAC business a few months later in addition to deciding to find an odd heating and air conditioning business to work for.
