I’ve always loved being an HVAC worker for the local HVAC dealer.
- I’ve been a certified HVAC worker for 20 years and I didn’t always love where I was working.
I started at a small start-up HVAC contractor right after I finished my HVAC certification, which was great for a few years because I was able to work taxing while building my business and reading new things. The next HVAC contractor I worked for offered me an increase in currency, but the people were horrible. The owner of the contractor didn’t particularly do any HVAC servicing, and he just sat in his office all day long, whenever he did step out of his office it was to boss most people around or yell at someone. He also ran crazy promotions whenever he wanted, which ran all the HVAC workers into the ground. I remember one day when I came into work, I saw all my coworkers loading their contractor vans with a bunch of oil furnaces and air conditioning systems. When I asked if there was a special on furnaces and air conditioning systems, one of my buddys told me and others about the latest promotion our boss was offering! Apparently, he decided to start offering free furnaces and installation with any a/c purchase. Our boss didn’t warn us about the sale until the day it went live and we were slammed for weeks. I was forced to work 50 hour weeks in order to keep up with the demand! I hit my breaking point with this HVAC contractor a few weeks later and decided to find a better HVAC contractor to work for.
