When we decided to get a couple of horses, we didn’t know very much about taking care of them.
Fortunately we were able to get some tips from the people we were buying the horses from.
They told us what to feed the horses and how often, how to give them water and other important things. I thought they would require a heating system in the barn stables, but they cautioned to limit the heating. They explained that the horses could actually get sick with too much heating and it was best to just not use a heater at all. They said instead to just use special heating blankets for the horses when the weather was especially cold and windy. This protected the horses from freezing, but apparently horses have a sort of built in heating system that makes them incredibly warm most of the time. I learned a lot about taking care of horses and how to take care of their horseshoes. It has been a very interesting experience and we really love these horses. We go riding on them often because we have a pretty good amount of land to go riding on. Our daughter has been practicing riding the horses too and I think in time, she might even be able to enter into some of those horse riding contests. She is very good at the sport and I think she would do a fabulous job. Even though she was concerned about having a heating system for the horses during the frosty season. We discussed the right moves to make to keep the horses healthy, primarily keeping their bedding clean and dry.
