The guy who lives next to us went on vacation last week and someone stole the window AC unit out of his living room window.
They jumped over the backyard fence and ruined a whole garden of rose bushes in the process.
They broke a couple of windows in the back of the house and stole a window AC unit. It didn’t look like they went into the house. After I found out about the stolen AC unit, I started to think about my bikes on the back porch. I always keep the bikes on the back porch and most of them don’t have a lock. I have always trusted the people in this neighborhood, but maybe that is a terribly naive decision to make. My wife agrees that we need to be more careful. We bought some heavy duty padlocks and chains for the adult bikes and some cheaper but equally effective locks for the children;s bikes. To be honest, no one would steal the kid’s bikes when my wife and I have $1500 mountain bikes, but we wanted the kids to feel safe. One of them had a bad dream that someone stole her bike and laughed as they rode away. That nearly broke my heart. My wife and I went to the hardware store the next morning. I hope the burglary and theft was a one time problem, but I have everything in the backyard protected just in case. I’m also thinking about adding a security camera to the back porch that overlooks the garage and the side door.
