I have worked as a personal trainer for the last eight years.
I really love my job, but there are some challenges.
The majority of clients are absolutely wonderful. They are committed to improving and maintaining peak physical fitness. They show up on time, work hard throughout the session and take pride in their accomplishments. While we chat during their session, they are focused on the exercises. I really enjoy seeing the improvement and their sense of pride over their success. However, I’ve had people who’ve definitely signed up for the sake of saying they are working out. They don’t have any interest in actually pushing themselves. They complain if a workout is strenuous and quick to give up on an exercise that challenges them. I’ve had people show up without being properly prepared to workout. They are dressed in restrictive clothing without the proper footwear. They would prefer to spend the entire session standing around and talking. While I get paid either way, it frustrates me. I want the people I train to get results and feel good about themselves. It’s important to me to make improvements in their strength, flexibility and endurance. I take pride in elevating their quality of life. I like to get people focused on their physical health so that they can enjoy a more active lifestyle and better future. Those are the reasons I got into this line of work. I have people who signed up with me when I was first starting out and I still train them every single week. I’ve had others who haven’t lasted a full month.
