Great house design needs subtle HVAC equipment

It’s good to be in the right place at the right time.

  • The older I get, I’m getting more and more convinced that opportunities seized are the way to go.

And that’s just what happened when we bought the house we now love so very much. For years, my wife and I had looked fondly on an old house that was just a few miles from where we lived. The place was one of a kind but had fallen in pretty serious disrepair as it was part of a disputed estate. So when we heard that the estate had been settled and they were looking to just unload the house for the value of the property, we pounced. And we got it. We updated the HVAC equipment in the house we owned, got it on the market and got it sold. We were able to do this just in time to close on the house we’d wanted for a long time. Yet, we were a long way from moving in. In fact, we lived in an apartment with so so heating and cooling for a full year before we completed the renovations on the house. Our intent was to bring the house back to its original design. One of the challenges there was what to do about the heating and cooling. The house was built in the thirties so there was no residential HVAC in the design. And the house had a weird patchwork of HVAC that not only didn’t work but was an eyesore. So we chose to go with a ductless multi split system for our heating and cooling. This form of heating and cooling simply blends in to the original design of our home.
