Air duct problem changed HVAC replacement plans

I learned firsthand that when it comes to replacing the HVAC equipment, huddle with the HVAC professionals before you lay your plans.

For years, I’ve been saving for new heating and cooling equipment. The HVAC unit we had was over twenty years old so I wanted to be sure that I was prepared when it stopped working. Actually, I wanted to get as close as possible to the end of the old HVAC before I had the new HVAC unit installed. I really thought I was way ahead of the plan and being super proactive. To an extent, that was absolutely true. However, I did all this planning on my own. From figuring out what sort of latest and greatest residential HVAC model to buy to keeping tabs on the old HVAC unit. Once the utility bills started spiking, I knew that I needed to move on the new HVAC unit. That spike in heating and cooling costs was the sign that the old HVAC was on its way out. This is when I called the HVAC company to start setting dates and putting downpayments on new HVAC equipment. That was also the first time I had the HVAC contractor out to our house to discuss the HVAC replacement. And that’s when I found out that I should have engaged the HVAC professionals from the very outset of this whole plan. The HVAC contractor found that the ductwork was also shot and that meant a pretty major overhaul in the house just to replace the ductwork. All those plans went right out the window. But the HVAC contractor came through for us with a ductless multi split system to save the day. And actually, I think I like this heating and cooling method even better.
