It seems like the HVAC equipment in this house runs all the time and all year.
Of course, that isn’t exactly accurate.
But with the cold winter and the blazing summer we have in this area, it sure feels as though the HVAC unit is just rolling all the time. There are plenty of years where we hardly see any spring or fall. It’s like the gas furnace is pumping out the heating one day and I’m flipping the thermostat over to HVAC cooling the next. Seriously, it’s really weird. Most other places I’ve lived there is at least a period of time in the spring and fall where the temperatures are perfect. It’s the time of year made for screen doors and no HVAC. But we just don’t see that so much in this region. As a matter of fact, I ended up with a big misfire when it came to starting up the air conditioning this past spring. It was another one of those deals where the week before the high was mid 50’s and then it jumps to the low 80’s. So I go to flip the thermostat from heating to cooling. I note that the HVAC cooling is coming out of the ductwork but I also think I hear a strange noise as well. Turns out that I did hear a bearing going bad in the HVAC cabinet. Of course, this would have been noticed and fixed had I gotten the air conditioning tune-up from the HVAC company as I should have. That fact did not get past the HVAC technician and it sure didn’t get past me.
