I’ve been an HVAC technician for most of my adult life.
I started working at our local heating and cooling company back when I first got out of high school and I just ended up staying there.
It’s not like I ever planned on being an HVAC technician for my whole life, but it just kind of happened. One thing that I can say about this career, though, is that it’s never boring. I meet new people all the time and I have seen some crazy things over the years. One of my favorite parts of going out on HVAC service and maintenance calls is doing vent cleaning. I love cleaning out ventilation ducts. I know that sounds kind of weird, but the funny thing is that I find all kinds of crazy stuff in air vents and air ducts. Once I found a rubber ducky sitting all alone in one of the air vents. It just makes you wonder how in the world some of this stuff ever got in there. I usually find lots of make-up, glitter, stickers, crayons, and dog toys. Once in a while, I find something like a sweater or a shoe stuck down in an air conditioning vent or a heating duct. The craziest thing I ever found was an old bag that was full of cash! It looked like it had been crammed into the air duct years ago, and the homeowner had no idea that it was in there. They were having trouble with their heating and cooling coming out correctly, and the reason was because this bag of money was blocking the airflow.
