I wanted to hire the experienced Heating, Ventilation, & A/C tech

I was looking for an experienced Heating, Ventilation, & A/C tech to work in the service shop.

  • I had a stack of applications, but only a handful of qualified candidates.

I interviewed various candidates during the process. I was hoping someone would stick out in the crowd & then I met with Jack; Jack had a ton of experience & he was still young & healthy. He was perfect for the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C service company. He had more than four years toiling in a commercial Heating, Ventilation, & A/C service service as well as a couple of years of military background. I interviewed Jack & every one of us talked for nearly an hour. At no time during the interview did the guy mention the fact that he has a criminal record. It would not have been a deal-breaker for me, if he would have mentioned the concern during the interview. When I found out through a criminal investigation, I was entirely aggravated. I told Jack that I was not going to be able to hire him & I stated the exact reason why. He understood our reasons. I told the guy that he could apply again next year if he still needed a job. I continued our search for a new serviceman. I ended up hiring a guy with three years experience. His resume did not look nearly as nice as Jack’s, but he didn’t have a criminal history & 2 felonies on his record. I really hope the guy will apply again next year. He seemed enjoy a enjoyable candidate for the job & I would be willing to provide him a try.
