I was looking for a job close to my parents, because I wanted to move to the city.
I knew I could stay with them for a couple of months.
My dad converted the basement into a small apartment and it was the perfect place to lay my head. I happened to be visiting my mom and dad for dinner one night and my mom ran out of milk. I went to the grocery store to get the items that my mom needed and I saw a bulletin board with advertisements for jobs and items for sale. One of the ads was for a job at a local HVAC company in town. I remembered the name of the HVAC business, because my parents used them when I was a kid. In fact, my parents were still using them to service the HVAC. When I told my dad that they had an ad for an HVAC repairman job, he told me to call. I had some minimal experience in heating and AC repair. The ad didn’t say experience was necessary. I waited until Monday morning to call the owner. The guy was anxious to meet with me in person. I had an interview on Tuesday, but the owner had to reschedule until the next day. I got up really early and worked out at the gym for a couple of hours. I met with the owner for thirty minutes, but he didn’t seem happy with the fact that I had very little experience. The next day I was surprised to hear back from the guy. He offered me a job working in the shop at the repair company. He couldn’t give me a job as a full time tech, but he could learn the ropes.
