My friend James owns a small car dealership, and he has offered me a position as the office manager for his business.
The job is mine without having to go through an interview process. We have done business in the past, and he knows my work ethic and understands the value I would bring to his business. Well, I have not yet accepted his offer because of one major concern that I have. The office space is in a small, old building, and it has no air conditioning. In fact, James’ office is the only space that has air conditioning and it’s a window unit that he installed a few years ago. If I accept the job, my work space would be the common area that is not air conditioned. And we live in a state where the Summers are always steaming hot, so I don’t think I could work in an office that has no air conditioning installed. I have not voiced my concern to James because I am trying to figure out the best way to tell him. But it’s not that I don’t want to work for him, I would just prefer to have a comfortable working environment. Because the building is so old, the cheapest option would be to install a window air conditioner in the common area. Another option would be to invest in a ductless mini split system. The mini split system would be more beneficial than a window A/C, but it does cost more money. I’m not sure what James will say when I bring up the A/C issue, my hope is that he at least gets a window unit.
