I’ve not been feeling okay living so far away from my family.
When I was a kid, all I wanted to do was run away and live elsewhere.
Back then, my parents were strict religious folk who brought us up to follow strict rules. It wasn’t easy when I went to school, and my friends went to parties and stuff. When I turned 16, my rebellion stage kicked in. I applied for university outside the country and didn’t hesitate to leave when my acceptance letter came. My parents were supportive, but I felt isolated for a long time. My dad reached out during the pandemic to ask me to come home. He runs an HVAC company and offered me work before I got something else to do. I’d spoken to mom earlier that week, and she saw I was struggling with the isolation. My only worry about moving back was the strictness that I remember vividly. My wanting to be so far away had caused my parents to chill out in a way I’d never seen before. Working for my dad at the HVAC company wasn’t even close to the nightmare I was worried it would be. He runs an amazing business, and his HVAC crew is quite dedicated to him. My dad knows the ins and outs of HVAC systems, having been an HVAC professional for 3 decades. The other morning he asked me if I was interested in learning from him and possibly taking over the HVAC business one day. I’m still reeling from the shock of that question.
