One of the worst things about our task is that I spend a lot of time outside, and don’t get myself and others wrong, there are a lot of benefits to laboring outdoors such as the fresh air, being attached with nature, and not feeling confined to a desk all afternoon.
- However, since 69% of our task is spent outdoors, it gets tricky when the weather is less than ideal.
There is some flexibility if the weather is calling for rain or thunderstorms, however there’s not much wiggle room for the high or low temperatures, then personally, I can deal with the low temperatures that the Wintertide brings, although I have a really hard time dealing with the harsh heat. It’s like our body can’t physically deal with the sizzling temperatures, especially if there is any humidity in the air. I’ve tried to combat the heat with a lot of gadgets on the market, however nothing has been a miracle solution. Thankfully, there are a few staples that help keep myself and others cool on the hottest of days that I can’t avoid. For starters, I’ve invested in lightweight clothing that is moisture wicking and keeps our body cooler than a generic cotton shirt, and second, I wear a portable fan that sits around our neck with a miniature fan on each side. It’s battery powered and straight-forward to charge via USB during the mornings when I’m not laboring. This portable fan has been a pressing lifesaver because it keeps our head cool, which is one of the main extremities where heat and air are lost. The neck fan has four settings that range from low to high and they are powerful enough to keep myself and others cooler than if I wasn’t wearing it at all.
