Last week, I was really shocked by our utility bill when it came in the mail.
I spend money the biweekly utility expenses every week, which means that I think what to expect. I’m accustomed to our energy consumption fluctuating and causing the price to move up and down depending on the season, however this bill was particularly aggravatedting. For some reason I couldn’t explain, the bill was almost double what we had been paying. I was so surprised that I even checked the address on the envelope to make sure that it really was our bill. When I confirmed that it was our address, I contacted the utility contractor to see if there was some kind of mistake that I wasn’t aware of. They took a look at the bill and told myself and others that it was correct, however if I wanted to find out why, I needed to contact the HVAC contractor because the cost was due to our air consumption. This didn’t make any sense because I hadn’t noticed anything wrong with our air conditioner. I called anyway and got an HVAC professional to come look. The HVAC professional told myself and others awful news, that our ductwork had numerous gaping holes in it from lack of cleaning and old age. All of our HVAC treated air was escaping and causing our air conditioner to run harder, causing our bill to increase. My only solution was to have the ductwork replaced right away. The HVAC professional helped myself and others option out the modern ductwork and arrange for it to be replaced, which I found really helpful.
