I am hoping to get more diversity in the A/C career

After 10 years building our contractor from the ground up, I finally found myself with some free time.

Anyone who thinks contract work is easy, or allows for ample down time, does not know the industry at all! Even after I started to become successful I could never allow myself to slow down or take a trip, it is only after all this time, when I have a full staff of 23 different professionals beneath me, that I can stop to smell the roses, of course I didn’t do something great like golf or surfing, I started holding a free workshop for young people to learn the basics of heating and cooling repair.

Being a part of the heating and air conditioning industry for a decade, I am well aware of its many flaws and shortcomings. One of the largest and most egregious, in our book, is the lack of female heating and air conditioning techs, or people of color in the industry! Traditionally speaking the heating and air conditioning field has been the exclusive territory of white males, and I don’t think that is fair. I started teaching these free heating and air conditioning classes to youngsters hoping to get more women and people of color into the industry. We need diversity, and not just for the moral reason but also because it will help the contractor to grow. I personally suppose several people who have asked me about having female heating and air conditioning techs do their repair calls because it makes them feel safer. I know that a new wave of female heating and air conditioning techs and repair reps could be great for our whole industry.
