He sat on the sidewalk waiting for the HVAC technician.

I was talking to my husband about needing to call the HVAC company.

It was time to have the furnace serviced before winter.

As soon as “HVAC” got out of my mouth, our dog was pawing at the door. Instead of going over to the tree, he sat on the sidewalk, watching up and down the street. I was laughing, but my husband was perplexed. He asked what was up with our silly dog. I had to explain that every time the HVAC technician arrives; he gives Roscoe a treat, then ruffles his neck. Roscoe looked forward to the treat. Whenever he hears me talk about the HVAC technician, he sits on the sidewalk and waits for him. My husband frowned and asked how often the HVAC technician was there that Roscoe knew the name and treats so well. I kissed his cheek and told him I would count and let him know as soon as he went to work. He got Roscoe to come into the house with a different treat and tried to explain to our dog that the HVAC technician wasn’t coming over today. He looked sad as he sat by the door with his head on his paws. I could have sworn he knew what I was talking about. He wouldn’t be disappointed for long, however. The HVAC company called and said they could have a technician at the house by the end of the week. Roscoe was in the kitchen when the phone rang and as soon as I hung up, he was bouncing all around like he knew who I was talking to.
