Growing up in near poverty wasn’t fun at all! I remember all sorts of financial trouble liking me and my aunt.
She got laid off from her job when I was a teenager, so I had to go work at the local grocery store in order to pick up the financial slack a little bit.
The owner didn’t seem to believe in using the heating system, and worst of all, I had to work in the back by the freezers all the time, so I needed to wear several layers. I will never forget that particular winter, because on top of all these other troubles that I mentioned, our heating went off. Not to mention the fact that there was a blizzard outside, school was canceled, and our radiator was useless to us. Our furnace was not salvageable and needed to be completely replaced, but we could not afford this at all! Luckily, we were able to find a charitable HVAC company willing to finance the furnace replacement for us. However, we still needed to raise money towards paying off the new heater. The owner of this particular HVAC business turned out to be such a nice guy that he lent us the cash for the furnace. He heard our story and he saw me working at the grocery store so hard that he believed I would pay him off because I was a hard worker. Who knew that people could be so kind in this unforgiving world? This HVAC company owner even offered my aunt a job working his front desk. Thankfully, the brand new furnace worked really well, and our home was very comfortable after that.
