Mom and I were planning to spend time together for quite some time. Ever since I moved to my own place, we rarely get to do that. When I was living at home, mom made sure we spent time in the city shopping, eating, and having fun. She’d also do the same with my brother so we both feel quite close to her. Despite working full time and raising two kids, mom has always been there and I feel quite lucky to have her in my life. Last weekend, I had a day off so we chose to head to the city like we used to do. We got a mani-pedi, did some shopping since I needed a winter coat, and went to eat at our favorite restaurant. I don’t have a car so mom picked me up and dropped me to my apartment before heading home. When I was relaxing and watching TV, she called in a huff to say my brother had messed with the thermostat. Mom has this old thermostat that I always say is held together by some form of magic. She says she is saving up for a smart thermostat and sees no need for a replacement at the moment. Mom had set the thermostat at a specific setting and warned my brother not to touch it. But, when we were away, he got uncomfortable and went to adjust it hoping mom wouldn’t notice. Unfortunately, the thermostat stopped working and the house felt so cold that evening. Mom had no option but to book for an HVAC expert to come and replace it the following day since winter is close.
