My boss hasn’t made any upgrades to our building in the 10 years I have worked for this company. We had to beg for new computers, but that was a technical necessity when the old ones kept holding us up and wasting precious time during our shifts. I was instrumental in that situation as well, so it’s no surprise that I was met with great resistance during subsequent attempts to get upgrades done to this workplace of ours. I get that our boss owns the building, but he wouldn’t have a functioning business without his employees. That’s what makes me feel like we have a say in how money is spent if our work environment is facing serious neglect. Luckily our boss approved roof repairs after several instances of ceiling leaks and water dripping on the floor. It’s not safe for indoor air quality to have water damage in the ceiling, but hopefully that won’t be a problem any longer with the new roof in place. Sadly, our boss didn’t heed my warnings about the heating system ahead of our usual winter holiday and Christmas party. It gets really cold during this time of the year in our region, so it’s imperative that our building has constant heat coming from the furnace. Otherwise, the temperature inside will plummet as it gets closer to the temperature outside. Well, just like I feared, the heater stopped working during our Christmas party. We had to cut it short after we all started to get so cold we were shivering in our clothing and reaching for our coats to stay warm. My boss was apologetic, but I wasn’t ready to hear his excuses after my fervent warnings.
