All of the storm survivors were moved to an area that was safe

Nobody likes sitting in the house all day while the raindrops fall to the ground. Storms have been moving through the area this winter and we’ve been hit by a ton of rain and wind. We had more than twelve inches of rain in the last three weeks and that;s a lot for the area. We have been in drought conditions for the past two years. The ground is dry and all that rain just washes right down into the creeks, valleys, and rivers. We had two major storm systems come through at the same time and they dumped more rain and wind. The wind toppled many trees and there were several area residents that had their homes crushed by trees. The storm survivors had to evacuate their homes quickly. They were all moved to an area over by the elementary school. One of my coworkers lost her home during the storm. The tree came down in the middle of the roof and crushed the place. It looks like the house was built around the tree now. The roofing company looked at the mess and told the lady that the house is now a disaster zone. The roof cannot be repaired unless the foundation and the house are put back together first. My friend is getting paid out from her insurance company after all of the damages and I think she will probably use the money to retire and buy a condo somewhere down south. If a tree demolished my house, I might use the money to change my life too.
