The idea of selling the house sort of came up once the kids were off to university, we were both sort of hesitant to sell the house at that point, and even though the heating and cooling costs were stupid for just two people and a pet, we wanted to make sure the kids had a home.
Selling the house came up again once the kids were all on their own.
But this time, there was an immense added incentive. All of this occurred just as the real estate market exploded around here. On top of that, the seasoned heat pump was at the end of its effectiveness to provide quality heating and air. All of that sort of came together to make the perfect storm that we simply could not ignore. The first thing we did was talk to our favorite realtor about the changes that had to be made. Obviously, we planned to replace the HVAC equipment. But thankfully, we didn’t make a move on that until we got input from our realtor. Instead of going low end on residential HVAC, we decided to certainly replace the HVAC and HVAC technology on the advice of the realtor. We saw the data which proved that good residential HVAC was an immense driver when it came to appealing to prospective customers. The HVAC company tested all the details and we got the house on the market. It wasn’t on the market 3 weeks before we got a cash offer above the asking price. I think that the new quality heating and air had so much to do with adding all that value.
