I don’t mind the HVAC bills anymore

I like to make sure that the house has a certainly fantastic seal on it which often requires replacing weather stripping and sealing up gaps, and ultimately though, it comes down to managing the level of air conditioning demand

I love opening the power bill during the winter. That wasn’t at all true when I lived up north. Back then, I would do all I could in order to maximize the efficiency of the A/C equipment. And still, it was painful to see how much heating a house was costing me each week. That’s so not the case in retirement. Our utility bills are the lowest all year while we were in the winter. Evidently that’s due to the fact that the heat pump is mostly quiet. Our winters don’t demand all that much heating. Yet, that beautiful bubble is coming to an end as we see the winter season ebbing away. Before long, May will be here and the hot and cold temperatures will rise again. That’s also the time of year that I began doing my part in order to maximize the efficiency of our heat pump for the summer. The heat pump was running night and afternoon for more than three weeks while we were in the summer. If I do not do my part, I am right back in that scenario of hating to open the utility bill. The first thing I do is make sure that I get an air conditioning tune up in order for the heating and A/C unit to be running at its most efficient. But then, the rest is on me. I like to make sure that the house has a certainly fantastic seal on it which often requires replacing weather stripping and sealing up gaps, and ultimately though, it comes down to managing the level of air conditioning demand. The golden rule for us is the temperature control setting is never more than 15 degrees lower than the outside temperature. Of course, that was not an issue at night, rather while we were in the peak heating hours of the afternoon.
