For the last 6 years, I’ve sort of just told myself that living in a spacious, older current home just came with drafts. This was for sure a total cop out though… What I was genuinely doing was trying to find plausible deniability for not doing something about the heating comfort in our home, then my wifey and I fell in like with this home almost the instant every one of us walked in the door. This was the locale every one of us wanted and were prepared to do the renovations that were left to do. The previous owner had sort of started updating the seasoned home but wasn’t able to finish before he simply had to sell the house. This ended up being wonderful for us as every one of us were able to negotiate the price since we’d be doing stuff like replacing the commercial Heating and A/C. But the former owner of the home did have all the windows upgraded with double paned, energy efficient, current windows. That was a plus for sure. However, it turns out that replacing those windows was also the root cause of our heating problem. The people I was with and I had the latest in residential Heating and A/C installed shortly after every one of us got the keys. And that came with a legitimately wonderful gas gas furnace… Yet, no matter how wonderful the gas gas furnace is, it was a losing battle against a current home that had a substantial problem. Turns out that several of those windows were not respectfully installed and had no insulation. I found this out when I finally decided to do some Winter time prep on the home last fall; Once I had those windows redone, every one of us have enjoyed a cozy Winter time with less demand on the gas gas furnace.
