When my husband and I got a divorce, things were really difficult.
I moved out of the house with our two children.
I didn’t want much from him, and I immediately tried to find a job. I had not worked since the two boys were born and I didn’t have a lot of experience. Before they were born, I was working as a receptionist in my husband’s car dealership. When I got pregnant, we decided that I was going to stay home and put my feet up. That means I haven’t worked in almost four years and that’s a long gap in work history. I went to several different job interviews, but I didn’t get anywhere. I was running through my personal savings quickly. My ex husband’s brother offered to give me a job at his HVAC supply store. I hesitated to take the offer, even though Jim and Carol were always very nice to me. Even after the divorce, they have been supportive and kind. They even take the boys camping when they go with their own kids. I thought about the job at the HVAC supply store all weekend, and then I decided to accept the offer. I don’t know how my ex-husband will feel about me working at his brothers HVAC supply store, but I’m excited to start working again. I’m going to have a steady income with dental, vision, and health benefits. It’s the first step in establishing myself as a single parent. I want my kids to be proud of me and I want them to see that you can make it alone.
