As an HVAC technician, I think that some of the things that I do are better than others.
I am sure that everyone feels this way about their job.
There are just some things that are a lot more enjoyable to do than others. For me, I would definitely rather be repairing someone’s broken furnace or air conditioner than to be installing a new furnace or air conditioner. If you are not an HVAC technician, you probably won’t understand why I feel that way, so I will try to explain. Repairing a broken furnace or air conditioner is way easier for a few reasons. First, if you are repairing someone’s HVAC unit, then you are probably going to be working inside the house for the day. On a cold winter day, working inside someone’s house on their furnace is a lot better than trying to work outside. Also, taking apart and diagnosing a furnace is a lot more fun than trying to install a furnace. I also like the aspect of meeting new people and seeing new environments. Now, let me explain what a day looks like when trying to install a new furnace or air conditioner. If this is your job, then you are probably going to be doing one of two things. Either you are actually assembling and installing a new HVAC unit, or you are crawling in an attic or crawl space to run the ductwork. Either way, you will be doing this at the most extreme temperatures, which means you will always be too hot or cold. There are no breaks, no warm areas, and no bathrooms. It is awful.
