There was a fresh smell in the school

Right after I graduated high school, I thought I had my future all sewed up and tied with a red ribbon.

  • I had done all of my college road trips and visited a couple of colleges twice.

I knew exactly which college I wanted to go to. I sent in my application and I was accepted immediately. I couldn’t believe that I was finally going to be on my own and at a school of my choosing. When I went to the school for my orientation, I was amazed at how good the air quality was in the school. It was nearly 100 degrees outside, but inside, it was cool and comfortable. I knew there was a reason why I had chosen this school to spend the next four years of my life in. The dorms were every bit as comfortable and cool as it was in the gymnasium. When I finally started school, I was surprised to find out that the HVAC wasn’t working nearly as well. It was hot and humid in the dorm rooms. I asked the dorm parent about the HVAC in the rooms and how it was so cool when I was visiting. She said they turn the air conditioning on when the parents are there. Once the parents leave, the air conditioning is turned back off. They didn’t need to have the HVAC all year round, so instead of wasting it, when the kids are in school, it is turned back off. Like we kids are a waste of energy. I was wondering what else I was going to be disappointed in as time went on.
