I called the HVAC company hoping to get a good price on a new air conditioning unit.
Everyone I talked to told me it could cost as much as $5000 to get a good air conditioning unit.
If I had to put that much out for a central ac unit, I was going to have them cap off the ductwork and buy a window air conditioning unit. I only needed it for my bedroom when I was sleeping. If the one window air conditioning unit worked well enough, I would buy a larger one or two for the rest of the house. I didn’t need it to be frigid inside, but cool enough to be comfortable. I lived in the south, and I couldn’t get away with no air conditioning. ‘The HVAC technician must have thought I was crazy when I said I wouldn’t pay that amount of money for air conditioning. I told him I didn’t have that much in the bank and I would rather buy window air conditioning units. There were many houses in my area that had window air conditioning units hanging out. If they could do it, then so could I. I called the home center and told home what I wanted. He suggested nothing less than a 2000 BTU AC unit. I asked if they delivered, and he set he would set me up for delivery and set up if I ordered in the next hour. I put my order in with him and gave him my credit card information. Two hours later, I had an air conditioning unit in my bedroom window, and my entire house felt cooler than it had in the last month or more.
