My son had a science project where they were asked to determine how various home features have been made more energy efficient.
They had to do the assignment with the help of their parents, so it was a family project.
Coincidentally, our a/c rep was coming for a routine maintenance check every three months to ensure that our dual fuel system keeps running efficiently. He covers everything related to a/c care and does any a/c repairs, but we haven’t had many repairs since our initial a/c install. I work from home, so when the a/c workman came over, I remembered the assignment, and I knew we had to cover the science project -energy saving in quality HVAC equipment- I even made a title for it. I knew it would be brilliant, and I only needed to request the cooling products expert if he would be in a position to help us. He agreed to help us and even mentioned that the air conditioning company he worked for was running an energy efficiency awareness project, which would be a win for them too. We went through the basics of ensuring you buy quality HVAC equipment, preferably one with high SEER ratings. We also learned that our unit was energy-efficient because we used less of the gas furnace and more of the heat pump, which relies on electricity. There was also information on ensuring that the air conditioning filter is changed when it should for the disposable options. In contrast, the washable filter should be washed every month to avoid exhausting the AC unit as it tries to perform air purification efficiently. The bottom line is that caring for the unit’s features would make it function efficiently, thus saving energy.
