An incident in the weight room

Pumping iron gets me all fired up.

I listen to headphones when I lift, because I need to keep that energy set to the maximum the entire time. If I lose my music then I lose my focus, and when I lose my focus I can’t get in the zone for lifting. Anyone who lifts weights knows what I mean, there is a momentum to a workout, and you have to find that zone and ride it to the end! Two weeks ago I was at the gym, lifting like I normally do after work on Friday nights, and this meathead took off my headphones. I am in the middle of weight lifting, I have the bar in the air, and he yanked my headphones off of my head. Anyone who spends any time in a gym knows this is not just rude and disrespectful, it’s also dangerous. Weight lifting requires not only physical; strength but mental focus and balance. Messing around with someone on the weight lifting bench is a huge breach of etiquette, but I was helpless to address the issue at the time. I had to maintain my mental focus and gently put the bar back in the weight bench cradle. Two of the personal trainers were already in between us, making sure there wasn’t a fight. I smiled and said I would never start a fight in the gym, that was dangerous to the other lifters. That was the end of it, at the time… but later that night I waited in the parking lot behind the gym and beat the crap out of him.
