One thing that is great about the current smart thermostat I have is that it had a digital display that will let myself and others guess when the batteries are running low on it.
It gives this warning about 3 weeks before the batteries are going to die.
This way, I don’t have to rush out as well as buy current ones immediately if I do not have the time.
