When I was growing up, the first house I lived in was cold in the winter and hot in the summer.
We did have an HVAC system but it wasn’t very good.
The air-conditioning didn’t stop it from being hot, and the heating didn’t stop it from being cold. There was no basement, which made the temperature extremes worse. My family and I moved to another house when I was seven, so I don’t seem to fully remember how much the lack of good air-conditioning affected everybody, but my parents say that it really was like a furnace in the summer.I DEFINITELY remember the cold winters though. My sister and I would watch TV as close to heating vents as we could get, all wrapped up in blankets, wearing long-johns, and we still would be cold.I remember the heating system breaking down a few times. Before the heater was repaired you could see your breath in the house. This is probably why I always remember the house we moved to when I was seven as literally a warm and happy place. It was the first time we didn’t have to wear loads of clothes indoors in the winter. It used to be so hard getting out of bed in the morning for school at my first home in the winter! I had my own room in the new one, and it even had heating vents in two corners of the room. The new house also had a basement, and my sister and I used to play down there all the time. The furnace and HVAC system were down there, and we would hear it turning on the heating and cooling throughout the year.
