Ductless Mini split A/C

I always felt bad for the a/c service techs who had to be on top of rooves in the southern sun

It was about 12 years ago when I first heard about mini split ductless air conditioning. At the time, I was working as the office staff at a small church in my city. There were only two employees in the church – me and the pastor. If you have never worked in a church, it would probably shock you to know all the things that a “church secretary” does and needs to know or learn. There were so many things for me, it was so strange. By far, the most challenging thing I had to do was figure out what kind of heating and cooling system we should put in the church. We had a regular central air conditioning system, commercial grade of course, and like mechanical things do, this HVAC system decided to give up the ghost during the five years I was working there. There were three buildings we were responsible for: the church itself, the building that housed the two offices, and the pastor’s house. When the a/c went on the fritz, there were a lot of decisions to be made. The HVAC unit itself was housed on the roof, which I always thought was weird, but there was some kind of reason for it. I always felt bad for the a/c service techs who had to be on top of rooves in the southern sun. Anyway, one of the guys tried to convince us that we should get a mini split ductless system put in, but at the time, I thought he was crazy. We ended up not getting that and instead went with the same type we were replacing, but looking back on it, I think the ductless system might have been a good idea.
