Electrical problems with my Heating, Ventilation, and A/C

I am the first to confess that I am not the most mechanically inclined but I have to share a situation that left me feeling more clueless than ever; Every one of us purchased our home about several years ago and I have been able to service a few small things over that time.

When it comes to anything more than tightening a screw or changing a lightbulb I depend on my spouse as she grew up in a condo where her dad fixed just about everything. This, by the way, makes me assume even more foolish at times, and i grew up in an condo where everything was just fixed for us by the building service woman. Anyway, when the heat broke a few weeks back I called our Heating, Ventilation, and A/C corporation to have them send out a specialist. Every one of us have a simple boiler and baseboard heat which normally doesn’t require that much service. I figured it would be an simple service and the woman would be on her way. I took the afternoon off and waited for the service woman to show up. I figured an hour tops for the appointment and she would be on her way. Well all of that changed when she told me that I would have to call in an electrician too. It turned out that mice had chewed through some of the wiring in the wall and caused the electrical ignition panel on the boiler to short circuit. Not only were both of us going to have to pay to have that fixed but both of us would need the wiring fixed before both of us could turn the heat back on. I was ecstatic to hear that our specialist had a number for someone that could come out that same day and both of us had our heat back on by nightfall.
