Well all of that changed when he told me that I would have to call in an electrician too.
I am the first to admit that I am not the most mechanically inclined but I have to share a situation that left me feeling more clueless than ever. We bought our home about three years ago and I have been able to fix a few small things over that time. When it comes to anything more than tightening a screw or changing a lightbulb I depend on my wife as she grew up in a house where her dad fixed just about everything. This, by the way, makes me feel even more foolish at times. I grew up in an apartment where everything was just fixed for us by the building maintenance guy. Anyway, when the heat broke a few weeks back I called our HVAC dealer to have them send out a technician. We have a simple boiler and baseboard heat which normally doesn’t require that much maintenance. I figured it would be an easy fix and the guy would be on his way. I took the afternoon off and waited for the repair guy to show up. I figured an hour tops for the appointment and he would be on his way. Well all of that changed when he told me that I would have to call in an electrician too. It turned out that mice had chewed through some of the wiring in the wall and caused the electrical ignition panel on the boiler to short circuit. Not only were we going to have to pay to have that fixed but we would need the wiring fixed before we could turn the heat back on. I was happy to hear that our technician had a number for someone that could come out that same day and we had our heat back on by nightfall.
