We made the room next to the attic a playroom for our toddlers because the window is guarded, and the staircase landing was the easiest to add a high gate to.
They can’t climb off. However, it started getting breezy in the attic, and the playroom got cooler. We couldn’t get the source of it because the window was well shut, and no apparent spaces were letting in the cold air. After two weeks of avoiding the playroom, we had to find a solution, and the first place we thought about seeking help was the local heating dealer shop. The whole house was connected to the central heating system, which is a furnace, although we’ve been thinking about adding a heat pump. My husband was right in thinking that the issue needed an HVAC tech and nothing else because an inspection of the ductwork leading up to the attic was broken but could be sorted with duct sealing. The HVAC serviceman explained that he was simply air sealing, which would counter the breeze we were feeling and the reason why the playroom was cooler than we expected. Looking at the state of our attic, the heating industry expert also recommended that we consider insulating the space if we wanted to get the most out of our heating device. Of course, we jumped on that opportunity and scheduled it along with heating maintenance, installation of a heat pump, and its digital thermostat. The period between making the decision, buying the new heating technology, and installing it, was so stressful for us with curious toddlers around that I’m hoping it’s saved us from any near future heating repair. We ended the project by signing up for home services to keep ready for anything.
