I started out researching new thermostats.
I was no longer happy with a plastic dial that needed to be manually adjusted.
I began looking into smart devices that allowed temperature adjustment through an app on my phone. As I learned more about the many features available, I noticed that most of these thermostats are compatible with home automation systems. This led me to read about smart homes that combine control over multiple appliances and systems into a single hub. Since I already owned a smart washer and dryer, smart stove, smart refrigerator and smart dishwasher, I liked the idea of maximizing the potential of these modern appliances. I found that I could incorporate control over the lights, sound system, coffee maker, sump pump and all sorts of things into the home automation package. The sales rep that I worked with suggested that I consider their security package. At first, a security system didn’t sound like something my family needed. Our home is located in a very safe neighborhood and we have a dog. However, the more I learned about the security system, the more I wanted it. Having automated door locks that I can operate from my phone not only improves security but is also convenient. No one ever gets locked out of the house. I can easily unlock the door to the garage for delivery men. When we are on vacation, I can unlock the door for the dog sitter. The surveillance cameras located around the outside of the house are especially helpful. At any given time, I can watch real time video footage. I know who is standing on my front step. I can easily see that the strange noise in the backyard is just a raccoon.
