There is something wrong with my home heating system.
- Everytime I turn on the heater it reeks of burnt hair.
I feel like this means there is dust, dirt and hair deep inside the heater. If the heating device is too dusty, it will overheat. Overheating means parts wear out and break, or the heater damages itself beyond repair. I want to get rid of the burnt hair smell for safety reasons and that it also is disgusting to smell. Everything I have tried has not worked though. My first attempt was simply changing the furnace filter in the machine. I got a brand new HEPA filter to catch even more dust from getting into the system. Nope, the smell still happened. Next, I tried taking the machine totally apart and cleaning the inner workings. I jammed my vacuum hose up there, wiped along the edges and doused the device in bleach. Still when the heating system first turns on, the smell of burnt hair is floating in my air quality. My last attempt was trying my hand at ductwork cleaning. I cleaned the air vents and then stuck a broom in the ducts. I tried to get as much dust out of the air ducts as possible. I thought it was possible that maybe the heat was going over that dirt and making the smell. It still smells really bad though. So I either did a bad job, or that is not the issue. Now I am thinking I will need to call an HVAC business to solve my issue.
