We had just started holding our church service in a new location, at a local high school. Prior to this, we had been sharing a space with another church, so this location was going to be very different. It required a lot more setup here at the school and most of us were not familiar with what to do or how to find anything we needed. The first couple months, there were definitely a lot of growing pains. We had to figure out how to set up sign and various equipment, how to unlock doors, and where to store different things. We used the school’s auditorium and it was not the cleanest place so we also had to clean it periodically. It was also very hot, as we opened on a spring day. The problem was no one knew where the thermostat was. We had to have a huddle before the service and tasked about 10 of us with trying to find the thermostat so that we could cool down the room. We all began to search all the obvious areas like the walls and the front and back around. A few minutes later we discovered a thermostat that blended into the wall on the side of the wall. The thermostat looked a bit ancient and it was not very clear how you even worked it. Since it was so hot and stuff, we decided to just crank the AC all the way up and see if anything happened. About midway through the service we could finally feel the cool air and breathe a little better.
